Your choice, Servant or Charisma?

By Tak Jae Hak

Few days ago, we, the students of Samcheonpo high school, had a debate in which the topic was which leadership style is better, Servant leadership or Charisma leadership. The Debate focused on how participants listen narrowly the opposing argument. Although I won fourth grade, I listened the debate carefully.

Servant leader, Charisma leader, what do you think about these words? They are different leaders who guide and develop their groups.
These days, it is said that whether groups live or disappear depends on the ability of the leaders.
Thus, their management gets more important than the past. Then, what is the difference between servant and charisma leadership?

Servant leadership debate had about ten features. These are listening, empathy, healing, stewardship, commitment to the growth of people, building community, and so on. Listening is respect for others, and understanding with acceptable attitude. Empathy is called understanding with high dimension. It helps recognize the emotions of other people, leads them by knowing what they need through it.

Healing teaches the leader what problem they treating. Stewardship means he or she must manage the group and volunteer. Many celebrities, Albert Schweitzer, Theresa, Mahatma Gandhi, are Servant leaders.

Charisma leadership makes the members follow their leader dutifully. Charisma leader express their vision exactly. He or she forms condition which aims cooperation and mutual relationship. Though the result from them is often good and satisfactory, he or she seldom responds that positively. However, charisma leader change the construction into what he wants to make using his authority.

At Final round, the team named 'Jeong Dap Sa Hwe' won the first prize in front of all students. They stressed servant leadership, claiming their opinions exactly. Their debate also taught me why listening hard is very important when saying our suggestions.
